The Old Post Centre in High Street, Newhall are hoping to help unemployed people make their money go as far as possible for them with a number of free money-saving drop in sessions. The sessions will be running on Mondays and Saturdays from November 28th.
The sessions, run by online centre managers Sarah Paine and Jo Whittle, will include advice on using online resources to save money, as well as basic budgeting skills and general advice on credit cards and loans.
Mrs Paine said: “The employability courses and basic IT courses we run at the centre have been very successful but when we started talking to people it seemed once they’d got the basic skills they needed to put them into practice and find real value for what they’d learned.
“One of the big things which came out was that the tutors could help people save a lot of money through things like using price comparison, money back and coupon websites to group bookings and printing out coupons.”
The centre will also be running a new four-week course to help the unemployed improve their employability on Wednesday mornings from November 16th.
The pre-booked courses will build on advice offered in the centre’s existing employability drop-in sessions, offering people a specially tailored programme with advice on issues such as interview skills and applying for jobs online.
Meanwhile, the centre has also secured funding for a new series of Monday IT courses for unemployed parents, which begins in April next year.
Mrs Paine said: “We want to show people what IT can offer to help them build a better relationship with their children.
“It will look at things like making them aware of security measures they can put in place to ensure their children are safe online, to the free resources out there to help them with their school work.”
The new courses are funded by the Skills Funding Agency’s Neighbourhood Learning in Deprived Communities Fund and managed by Derbyshire Learning and Development Consortium.
